Cabernet Cocktail (Martini)
Hugely popular in the 1920s and 1930s the Jack Rose has featured in Hemingway novels and was known to be author John Steinbeck’s favourite drink. A basic mix of applejack, grenadine and lemon or lime juice this rose-coloured drink has been a favourite to many throughout its history.
The origins of the name ‘Jack Rose’ are widely disputed and could be named after the Jacquemot Rose flower, or perhaps simply named after the ingredients and the colour of the cocktail. It’s hard to find nowadays but has partially regained popularity in the last decade due to the recent craft cocktail movement.
