Popularised in the 1950s this well-known three-part cocktail is a remix of a classic Venetian practice of consuming white wine with soda. Aperol itself was invented in Padua, Italy in 1919 and is intended as a light liqueur alternative.
Gruppo Campari’s purchase of Aperol in 2003 has since increased sales of Aperol four-fold in the last 15 years – Gruppo Campari positioned The Aperol Spritz as ‘the perfect drink for social occasions’ the cocktail is once again revived and remains incredibly popular in Europe and beyond.
